The Miami Heat finished their recent season with a 46-36 record, placing 8th in the Eastern Conference. However, their playoff run came to a disappointing end when they lost to the Boston Celtics in the first round, 4-1. Following the defeat, many fans were quick to blame the team’s backcourt for their lackluster performance. However, former NBA star Patrick Beverley has a different view.
On his podcast, Beverley made it clear that he doesn’t believe Tyler Herro is the issue. Instead, Beverley pointed to the Heat’s point guard play as their main weakness.
“I don’t think he’s the X-factor on that team, though. Any time Herro is healthy, he plays well. Any big game, Tyler Herro plays well. The point guard play is the problem. The point guard play for the Miami Heat is the X-factor,” Beverley said.
“You’re trying to get the correct guard that fits with Jimmy Butler. Terry Rozier, he just got there last year. Obviously, for anyone getting to the Miami Heat culture, there’s an adjustment period. You need another guard ball handling that can get you anywhere from 10-14 points per game,” he added.
Patrick Beverley’s Transition to the Israel League Presents Challenges for Hapoel Tel Aviv Coach
This year Patrick Beverley signed a two-year, $4 million deal with Hapoel Tel Aviv BC in the Israel League. While his arrival brought excitement to the team, the team’s head coach, Stefanos Dedas, has admitted that coaching Beverley has been a unique challenge.
During his appearance on Podium House’s Shoot podcast, Dedas opened up about the former NBA star. He also discussed how Beverley’s NBA habits made things more complicated.

“Beverley is not easy to coach because he has some habits from the NBA. We talk every day with him. He says, ‘Coach me, coach me, curse me out!’ I say, ‘Don’t give me this; it’s what I love. I had to change Patrick’s mentality about the preseason,” Dedas said.
“It doesn’t count in the NBA, but here, it counts. You need to win; you need to collect the credit that the play is good and the roster is good,” he added.
Prior to this, Beverley, who recently suggested Julius Randle join a WC team, spent 12 seasons in the NBA with various teams. Hence, it would be somewhat challenging for him to adjust to the Israel League.
