During the last NBA season, the Miami Heat struggled in the playoffs due to multiple player injuries when they faced the Boston Celtics. Additionally, many fans criticized the Heat’s guard, Tyler Herro, for his poor shooting during the series. However, Patrick Beverley had a different opinion about Herro.
During a recent episode of the Pat Bev podcast, host Beverley defended Herro from the criticism he faced after losing the series. The former NBA All-Defensive guard mentioned that Herro played exceptionally in every situation.
“I don’t think he’s the X-factor on that team, though. Any time Herro is healthy, he plays well. Any big game, Tyler Herro plays well. Any time they say Tyler Herro is going through a shooting slump, he comes out on TV and he plays well. Tyler Herro isn’t the problem.” said Beverley.
The Miami Heat played the entire series without Jimmy Butler (right knee MCL sprain), Terry Rozier (neck spasms), and Josh Richardson (right shoulder surgery). Despite the absence of these crucial players, Tyler Herro did his best to save the series against the Celtics. The 24-year-old averaged 16.8 points, 5.4 assists, and 3.6 rebounds in 5 games during the 2024 playoffs.
Patrick Beverley Discusses the Miami Heat’s X-Factor
Jimmy Butler missed the entire series against the Celtics due to an injury, which directly impacted the Heat’s performance. However, as mentioned during an interview, Herro revealed having recovered completely.
While discussing the team with the co-host, Beverley highlighted the missing X-factor. The former NBA player emphasized the importance of finding the right point guard to support Butler.

“The point guard play is the problem. The point guard play for the Miami Heat is the X-factor. You’re trying to get the correct guard that fits with Jimmy Butler. Terry Rozier, he just got there last year. Obviously, anyone getting to the Miami Heat culture, there’s an adjustment period. You need another guard ball handling that can get you anywhere from 10-14 points per game.” Beverley added.
The next NBA season will start soon, and fans have high expectations for the Miami Heat as most of their players are now healthy and ready to dominate. The Heat’s first preseason game for the 2024-25 NBA season will be against the Charlotte Hornets.
