Victor Wembanyama, the standout player for the San Antonio Spurs, has quickly emerged as a dominant force after being chosen by the Spurs as the first overall pick in the 2023 NBA draft. On his debut game, the 20-year-old star, who was recently praised by Kendrick Perkins, scored 15 points, grabbed five rebounds, dished out two assists, and recorded two blocks.
Due to his exceptional skills, Wembanyama has received high praise on numerous occasions. In a recent episode of the ‘Pat Bev Podcast,’ host Patrick Beverley showered Wembanyama with compliments. Beverley, who is currently competing in the Israeli League, confidently stated that Wembanyama will be the NBA’s best player in the upcoming season.
“He’s not a five. He’s everything. Like you can’t even put him in comparison with other people, he’s the best player in the NBA next year. He’s a center who shoots threes and dribbles the ball.” Beverley said.
In a few games of his professional career, Wembanyama made history by recording a career-high 38 points against the Phoenix Suns. The 20-year-old center joined the legendary players LeBron James and Kevin Durant as the only teenagers in NBA history to score at least 35 points, grab ten rebounds, and block two shots in a game.
Beverley Lauds Spurs Sensation Victor Wembanyama
Wembanyama is often considered one of the best basketball prospects of his generation. He consistently delivered dominating performances for the Spurs. However, his efforts were insufficient, as the team failed to enter the playoffs last season. Despite this setback, his stellar skills paid off.
He was named the 2024 NBA Rookie of the Year, becoming the sixth rookie to win the award unanimously. Beverley further praised the Spurs star, saying that Wembanyama can shoot pull-up threes with a remarkable skill that most centers fail to demonstrate.

“Just because you’re 7’4″ doesn’t make you a center. We’re talking about guys who are centers, who come out and set screen and rolls. None of the guys that we are naming come up and shoot hesi pull-up threes, maybe [Joel] Embiid a little bit but that’s it. It’s not fair for him to give him a position. He’s an alien, he’s positionless,” Beverley added.
After the NBA season loss, Wembanyama didn’t stop in the offseason as he represented France in the 2024 Paris Olympics. The tall center led his team to the Olympic final, where they lost to Team USA.
The French team star averaged 15.8 points, 9.7 rebounds, 3.3 assists, two blocks, and 1.7 steals per game.
He averaged 21.4 points, 10.6 rebounds, and 3.9 assists in 71 games in the 2023-24 NBA season. The next NBA season will start in a month and a half, and it will be fascinating to see what Wembanyama brings to his team.
