A blockbuster trade proposal has the Toronto Raptors dealing a franchise star and fan favorite to an Atlantic Division rival.
Pascal Siakam, a key component of the Raptors’ 2018-19 NBA Championship team, is entering the final season of his contract. The 29-year-old could land a nice return for the Raptors if they look to trade him, and there certainly wouldn’t be a shortage of teams interested in the two-time All-Star.
At NBA Analysis Network, James Piercey proposed a massive trade idea that has Toronto sending Siakam to the division rival Brooklyn Nets in exchange for fellow All-Star Ben Simmons plus 2025, 2027, 2029 and 2030 first-round picks:
“What should the Raptors want? Realistically, they should want to build around Scottie Barnes. Meanwhile, he and Siakam are remarkably similar players. The Raptors should move Siakam to clear the runway for Barnes. Of course, that’s not the only reason – there’s also the value the Raptors would get for Siakam.
Here, they’re getting plenty of value. Four unprotected first-round picks are as well as they’ll do for Siakam. Realistically, they’re receiving three for Siakam and one for taking on Simmons’ contract. Should the Nets give up so much draft capital for Siakam.”
The Nets are loaded with draft picks after trading away a trio of future Hall of Famers in James Harden (to Philadelphia ahead of the 2022 trade deadline), Kyrie Irving (to Dallas) and Kevin Durant (to Phoenix).
With a plethora of draft picks and young assets, the Nets could certainly make a move for a veteran Al-Star like Siakam with the goal of quicky returning to championship contention. There’s already a nice foundation in place here led by Spencer Dinwiddie, Mikal Bridges and Cameron Johnson.

In 71 games for the Raptors last season, Siakam averaged 24.2 points, 7.8 rebounds and 5.8 assists per game. If Toronto doesn’t end up working out an extension with Siakam over the next few months, he’ll certainly be one of the top names to follow on the NBA trade market.
