However, Williams, a visionary leader and dedicated sports executive, played a pivotal role in bringing professional basketball to Central Florida. In 1987, the league’s board of governors gave the club an expansion franchise, and they started playing in 1989.
In 1968, he began his career in the NBA as the business manager of the Philadelphia 76ers. Subsequently, he served as the GM of the Chicago Bulls, the Atlanta Hawks, and the 76ers, where he was instrumental in the franchise’s victory in 1983.
Williams was inducted into the Magic’s Hall of Fame in its first class and was awarded the John W. Bunn Lifetime Achievement Award by the Naismith Hall of Fame in 2012.
The year 2019 marked Williams’ retirement. According to the Magic reports, he is said to be survived by his wife Ruth and their 19 children, 14 of whom are adopted from other nations.
