After the Oklahoma City Thunder won the game against the Dallas Mavericks, a reporter asked Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, the star player, about his regular-season experience and his expectations for the postseason.
In response, Gilgeous-Alexander, one of the contenders for the MVP award this season, stated that his team has played many games together and that every player is ready to win the championship.
“I played alright. But most importantly, we won a lot of basketball games… That’s what everybody laces their shoes up for to win basketball games and have a chance to win a championship,” Gilgeous-Alexander said during the interview.
During a recent interview, when asked about his chances of winning the MVP award this season, Gilgeous-Alexander expressed his hope of winning the title but also acknowledged that whoever is more deserving will get it.
“I hope I get it, yes. I think all the guys are deserving, all have their case. Whatever happens, happens. But whoever gets it is deserving for sure” Gilgeous-Alexander added.

Gilgeous-Alexander is undoubtedly a strong contender for the MVP
Gilgeous-Alexander has been performing exceptionally well this season, shooting 35.8% from outside the arc and 53.6% from the field, with an average of 30.3 points, 6.2 assists, and 5.6 rebounds. His contributions on both sides of the court have been critical for the Thunder.
However, despite his impressive performance, Jokic appears to have an advantage in the MVP race, although the margins may be close. Shai’s climb to the top seed could push him ahead of Doncic for the No. 2 slot on the NBA MVP ladder, but overtaking Jokic may be difficult.
While Gilgeous-Alexander is undoubtedly a strong contender for the NBA MVP award this season, his chances depend on his performance during playoffs. It will be challenging for him to beat the top contenders.
