The Dallas Mavericks earned a hard-fought 121-119 victory over the Oklahoma City Thunder on Saturday night. Despite missing their star player, Luka Doncic, the Mavericks pulled off the win against the Western Conference’s top team. PJ Washington stepped up to deliver a standout performance to secure the victory.
The win brought the Mavericks’ record to 7-7, placing them in 10th place in the West. Meanwhile, the Thunder’s loss dropped their standing from first to second, and they now hold an 11-3 record.
Mavs Triumph Over Thunder Behind PJ Washington’s Stellar Performance
The pressure was on the Mavs as they confronted the West’s best team, the Oklahoma City Thunder, without Doncic, who was listed as questionable due to a right knee contusion. But little did the Mavs fans think PJ Washington would come up with such brilliance.
Washington, playing just his second game back after missing five due to a shoulder injury, stunned fans with a season-high 27 points and 17 rebounds. His stat line included two assists, two blocks, 7-13 shooting from the field, a perfect 10-10 free-throw line, and 3-4 from beyond the arc.
Kyrie Irving also made a significant impact as the team’s second-leading scorer with 23 points, six assists, and a rebound. Solid contributions came from Naji Marshall and James Hardy, who chipped in 13 points, while Daniel Gafford recorded a double-double with 11 and 12 rebounds. Quentin Grimes and Spencer Dinwiddie added 10 points, and Klay Thompson scored 5 points.
On the Thunder’s side, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander was phenomenal, finishing with 36 points, two rebounds, and eight assists. Jalen Williams added 27 points, five rebounds, and four assists, while Lu Dort contributed 18 points, five rebounds, and four assists. Dillon Jones scored 12 points, but the rest of the Thunder roster struggled to provide consistent support.
