The entire season, the Dallas Mavericks boasted about their star duo, Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving. They displayed their remarkable offensive side but couldn’t succeed after climbing the top of the pyramid. Just when the Mavs were trying to get over their 2024 NBA Finals loss, Boston’s Oshae Brissett decided to take a sly dig at their champion guard.
Brissett shared a video on social media criticizing a Mavericks player which soon got circulated among the NBA community. The Canadian was spotted saying, “It’s so crazy how narratives change. Because at a point, Dallas had the best back-court in NBA history, and now one of them needs help.”
Prior to the Finals series, the Dallas back-court duo had most people in confidence. But when they faced the Eastern team, it crumbled. Brissett’s criticism was clearly pointed towards Irving.
Against the Cs, the 32-year-old guard couldn’t provide much support to Doncic, who happened to be the highest contributor to the team. Irving could only show up in two games on home court, but with all the ridicule at the TD Garden, he failed to perform in crucial ones.
Hence, Brissett said, “…one of them needs help.” Doncic did face his share of criticism for not being able to defend. However, he compensated for that with his phenomenal offense. With his brilliant performance this season, Doncic garnered praise from the Mavs GM, who believes he would step up for his national team.
Mavs GM Believes Luka Doncic Will Play for Slovenia
Throughout the playoffs, Luka Doncic played with numerous injuries but couldn’t get the rest his body needed. So when the season ended, all he wanted was some rest. But the Slovenian got called for his national duties. Doncic hasn’t responded yet about being on board with his team members and informed them that he had some decisions to make.

When the Mavs GM Nico Harrison was asked about Doncic’s national team status, he said, “That’s probably one of his biggest joys. As long as he can walk, he’s probably going to play for them. That’s my expectation.”
The Slovenian team would need Doncic to prepare for the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Piraeus, which seems difficult given the supreme teams of Greece and Croatia.
