Draymond Green, who is quite popular for his odd takes, made a bold statement about the NBA not wanting its players to be wealthy despite having a lavish four-year contract.
The conversation rose on “The Big Podcast,” where the Golden State Warriors veteran made many comments, one of them being the salary earned by the players and what lasts after their retirement. Draymond stated, “It’s actually not set up for us to be wealthy after we’re done playing… It took my mom 4 years when I was growing up to make $100k. And I lose that a night because, what?”
While talking to host Shaquille O’Neal, the former DPOY winner pointed out how much they are taxed on their salaries and the fines imposed on them. Green made a strange comment on the fine, as players have complete control over their behavior, which could prevent them from getting fined.
As soon as Draymond’s remark was shared on social media X (formerly known as Twitter), the NBA community came roaring back.

“I know I didn’t just listen to a guy who’s made $177,883,613 say he’s not set up to be wealthy for life because he was fined for public assault”, wrote another fan.
Someone added, “You make $10 million+ a year. That’s more than most people make in their entire life.”
While another fan wrote, “This man has a 4 year $100 million dollar contract and he complaining”
“Don’t turn into a WWE fighter out on the floor and maybe you’ll keep some $”, suggested someone.
One fan commented, “Imagine that your actions have consequences when you are a professional. Nobody feels sorry for you my guy, you make $25+ million a year.”
With the Warriors eliminated early from the post-season tournament, Draymond has ample time to entertain the audience with his off-court antics. Since he is filling in for Shaquille O’Neal on the analyst table of “Inside The NBA,” one can expect the odd takes to continue.
