Oklahoma City Thunder lost Game 6 against the Dallas Mavericks and was eliminated from the Western Conference Semifinals. After the defeat, Chet Holmgren, OKC Thunder forward, opened up about the loss and mentioned that he would do anything in the next season to prevent the same ending for the team.
“Nobody wins 12 straight championships, so the chances that I’m gonna feel this at some point again is definitely there, but I’m going to do everything in my power to avoid this feeling again.” Chet Holmgren said during a post-game interview.
The 22-year-old finished with a series-high 21 points, grabbed three rebounds, made three assists and had two steals. Holmgren made nine out of fifteen field goals, including five dunks, but only six out of seven three-point attempts. When he was not on the court, his ability to impact rim shots and contend for rebounds was particularly visible on defense. Before the Thunder lost Game 6 of the conference semifinal series to the Dallas Mavericks on Saturday, Holmgren led the team with 2.5 blocks per playoff game and averaged 15.6 points in ten postseason games.
Mark Daigneault praised Holmgren during the press conference
After the elimination, head coach Mark Daigneault defended Holmgren during the press conference and stated that people had not seen the best version of Holmgren yet. He also mentioned that Holmgren has a strong desire to improve and is very passionate about basketball. Daigneault expects Holmgren to make significant improvements during the offseason and return stronger next season.
“Right now, this is, in my opinion, the lowest level of Chet Holmgren we’re going to see, which is pretty exciting, and the reason I’m so confident in saying that is because of his appetite for improvement. He’s a guy that is incredibly focused. Basketball is his number one priority. He sleeps in his sneakers. He has done a great job of working with us as an organization on a plan and sticking to that plan. And He did that last summer, through the season; he’ll do that again this summer.” Daigneault said during the interview.
Holmgren has a long professional career ahead of him, during which time he can achieve great things.
