The Denver Nuggets star Nikola Jokic has been a monster this season. His stellar performances every week have brought him to the top of the list of MVP candidates for this year. The odds also favor him to win the honor making it his third MVP award.
He has surpassed his top competitor Shai Gilgeos-Alexander who also is having a great season. Shai has also delivered great performances every week for the OKC winning the hearts of the fans and analysts. However, Channing Frye doesn’t think that Shai can get the honor this year.

Nikola Jokic sits at the top of the NBA’s MVP ladder
Denver Nuggets star Nikola Jokic is currently at the top of the MVP ladder. He has asserted his dominance this season with elite-level performances throughout the entire time. The Joker has been remarkable and a dependable pillar for the Nuggets carrying them to victory in most of their matchups.
He has surpassed Shai Gilgeos-Alexander and stands at the number one position for the MVP race this season. The third place is held in a tie by the Bucks star Giannis Antetokoumpo and the Mavs star Luka Doncic. Jayson Tatum and Domantas Sabonis hold the fifth and sixth positions respectively. While Kawhi Leonard, Kevin Durant, Devin Booker, and Anthony Edwards occupy the remaining places on the list.
Channing Frye doubts Gilgeous-Alexander’s MVP chances vs Jokic
The OKC Thunder star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander holds the second position on the MVP list and has the highest chance of competing against Nikola Jokic. However, former NBA player Channing Frye has a different take on Shai’s position. He believes that it is not the year for the OKC’s thundering star to win the great honor.

“I just, in my heart, do not feel that this is his year. I can not look at Jokic again and go, ‘No you are not the best player in the league.’ Is SGA having a crazy year? Absolutely… On no piece of paper would you say, regardless of where OKC is, you would put them above Denver,” said Frye. He highlighted that Shai is having a better year compared to Jokic but his performances are still not able to match up to Jokic insisting that the Denver star is still the MVP.
