Nikola Jokic and the Nuggets punched their ticket to round 2 of the postseason after dispatching the Lakers with a 108-106 game 5 victory. For Jokic, it means he inches one step closer to heading back to Serbia to see his beloved horses.
In a video that surfaced on social media, Jokic’s controversial brother, Strahinja, is seen revealing a piece of curious details about the Nuggets center’s horses. His brother disclosed the name of Nikola’s favorite horse, which is “Dream Catcher” when he was asked about it.
Recently, Strahinja was at the center of a controversy when reports revealed that he was involved in a melee at the Ball Arena during game 2 of the series. According to eyewitnesses and videos, Strahinja threw some punches at a fan in the crowd and was joined by his brother Nemanja in the act. Though the NBA launched an investigation after it, Strahinja remains unpunished for the chaotic scene.
Jokic though, kept his focus on the task at hand and after facing a setback in game 4, the Serbian opened up about what horse racing taught him, which he applied to his game as well.
Nikola Jokic Reveals His Learning From Horse Racing
The Nuggets had secured the initial three wins against the Lakers but failed to extend their game-winning streak to 12 as the LA side finally broke the spell in Game 4 of the playoff series.
Following the loss, Nikola Jokic was asked in an interview why his team started slowly in the opening quarters of the postseason game. To answer the reporter, the 29-year-old disclosed what he had learned from horse racing. “Of course we want to win, but I’ve learned in horse racing: it’s not how you start, it’s how you finish,” stated Jokic.

Despite the slow start, the Nuggets proved to be the dominant side in four of five games and proceeded to the next round of the series after sweeping the Lakers. Jokic’s understanding of the horse race is only helping him to reach greater heights, and it is safe to say that he’ll be off to his native state as soon as the curtain falls in the NBA season to enjoy some quality time doing what he is more passionate about.
