It’s no secret Kyrie Irving and LeBron James are open to a reunion from their days playing for the Cleveland Cavaliers. LeBron has made it clear as recently as February’s trade deadline that he’d be open to playing alongside his former teammate.
According to a report by Bleacher Report’s Chris Haynes, Kyrie Irving is attempting to recruit LeBron James to the Dallas Mavericks.
Fox Sports commentator Nick Wright just recently spoke on this situation and he is accusing Kyrie of leaking this entire story just to get himself a new contract.
“I think the genesis of this report is Kyrie,” Wright said in an appearance on the Dan Patrick Show.
“Not because he thinks LeBron is going to get bought out by the Lakers and sign with the Mavs for the minimum…I think Kyrie wanted this out there to engender support from the Mavs to give him a max contract.”
Irving and James played together on the Cleveland Cavaliers for three seasons before Irving demanded a trade out of Cleveland. The point guard is set to become an unrestricted free agent after being traded from the Brooklyn Nets to the Mavericks at the NBA’s trade deadline.
Irving, an eight-time All-Star, played in 20 games for Dallas this season as the Mavericks failed to make the NBA Playoffs for the first time in three years.

James still has one year remaining on his contract with the Lakers before a player option in 2024-25.
The Lakers did make a flurry of moves at the trade deadline, revamping their roster and making the playoffs as the seven-seed in the Western Conference. Those moves would help them get all the way to the Western Conference Finals where they would get swept by the Denver Nuggets.
After the loss, James floated the possibility of retirement before the start of the 2023-24 season.
