Soon after abusing referees, the NBA fined Philadelphia 76ers head coach Nick Nurse and guard Kelly Oubre Jr. $50,000 each on Friday for abusing referees following a missed call in a painful defeat.
Oubre was fined for verbally insulting and directing an obscene gesture towards the referees, while Nick was punished for aggressively chasing and verbally insulting game officials.
Kelly Oubre Jr., a player with the Philadelphia 76ers, has started a controversy after an argument with the referees at the end of Wednesday night’s LA Clippers game. Kelly Oubre Jr. tried a last-second shot for the team, with the Clippers leading by a point in the final seconds of play, but he was unable to get the point.
However, the officials’ indifference to a foul call during the attempt enraged both the guard and Sixers coach Nick Nurse. Kelly Oubre Jr. called every referee a “b**ch” in their faces because he was upset that they had missed such an important point.
Referee Kevin Scott stated after the game that a video review revealed Oubre should have been sent to the free throw line with less than a second remaining in the game, and George should have been penalized for a foul.
However, it was too late to prevent Nick and Oubre from becoming enraged after the Sixers’ chance to win was shattered by the missed call.

Kelly Oubre Jr. apologised for his behaviour after the game
Nick was stopped from pressing his case by assistant coaches as he rushed onto the court to protest not having the foul called.
However, Oubre apologised for his verbal abuse of the game officials after the game. He felt that he had made a mistake.
“First and foremost, heat of the moment, This is an intense basketball game and we’re not perfect. The refs aren’t perfect. I want to apologize for just losing my cool. I saw Coach Nurse getting riled up and if our coach is going to fight for us and he’s going there, then I’m right behind him, But at the end of the day, it wasn’t cool. So I’ll take whatever penalties come with that and you have to move on, but I got to be better in a sense.” Kelly Oubre Jr. said.
NBA supporters are likewise disappointed in the player for mistreating officials; such behaviour is unacceptable.
