The Dallas Mavericks secured their spot in the NBA Finals by defeating the Minnesota Timberwolves 124-103 in Game 5 of the Western Conference Finals. As the Timberwolves players headed to the locker room in frustration, Anthony Edwards took a moment to offer words of encouragement to his teammate Mike Conley.
“Next year bro, we gonna be right back here,” Edwards said to Conley.
Edwards has been a standout performer throughout the Wolves’ playoff run, and despite the defeat, his spirit remains undiminished. He again proved this by talking to social media to address his critics.
“This is only the beginning. ‘Cause I’m not who they think I am. I’m better,” he posted.
Edwards recorded 28 points, nine rebounds, and six assists in the Game 5 loss. But, his efforts were not enough to stave off the Mavericks, who were dominant throughout the series. The Timberwolves’ journey ended with this loss, marking their first conference finals appearance since 2004.
Anthony Edwards Leads Timberwolves in Solidarity with Karl-Anthony Towns and Rudy Gobert
After their Game 5 loss, Anthony Edwards’ team decided not to make any of its star players available for TNT’s “Inside the NBA” postgame show. According to a report by The Athletic, this decision was a unified stand in solidarity with Karl-Anthony Towns and Rudy Gobert, who had been on the receiving end of harsh criticism from Draymond Green.

“Edwards was surrounded by a tight-knit team, one with such strong chemistry that it decided as a group that no player would appear on TNT’s ‘Inside the NBA’ postgame show after their victory in Game 4 in Dallas, team sources told The Athletic. The decision was a sign of support for Gobert and Towns, who were the subject of derisive and seemingly personal criticism from panelist and Golden State forward Draymond Green,” the report read.
Fans saw Green celebrating alongside Charles Barkley during the Western Conference Finals when Mavericks guard Luka Doncic outperformed Gobert. He even mocked Gobert after the Timberwolves center achieved the DPOY title.
