The NY Knicks finally gave in to their doubters after a tough run in the playoff semifinal series against the Indiana Pacers. Throughout the series, the die-hard NY fan base has shown high spirit, boosting the team to push their limits and strive for the best. So their All-Star guard Jalen Brunson felt that the fans “deserve much more” following their disappointing 109-130 loss in Game 7.
During the post-game presser, when Brunson was asked about the franchise’s fans, he said, “They have been nothing but amazing to myself, to this team, to my family… it’s really cool. Just so thankful for them and everything, and on the nights that we needed energy they provided it for us… I can’t really put into words of what they mean to me but they deserve much more than what we were able to do this playoff run, they deserve much more than that.”
Even with his foot injury, Brunson had a phenomenal individual performance in the post-season tournament. However, he couldn’t contribute as much as he wanted to in the final game because of his fractured hand. He finished with 17 points while helping his teammates with 9 assists in the 29 minutes he played. Most of the Knicks’ points came from Donte DiVincenzo’s 39 and Alec Burks’s 26. However, the team couldn’t stand a chance against the collective efforts of the Pacers.
The NY side had a strong grip in the second round of the series, but their injury-ridden side could not meet the final hurdle. After recording two early victories, they gave away their lead, and by Game 4, the two teams were tied. Despite making a dominant comeback in the following game, the Pacers snatched the wins in the next two crucial games, crushing the postseason dreams of Jalen Brunson and Co.
Jalen Brunson Assesses Knicks Season
After leading the Knicks team through several obstacles, Jalen Brunson shared his assessment of their season following their season-ending loss at Madison Square Garden.
During Sunday’s press conference, the 27-year-old was asked to address whether he saw their season as successful, to which he bluntly answered, “No.” Cross-questioning the reporter who asked him to elaborate on his point, Brunson asked, “Did we win the championship? Did we get close?” He further said, “That’s my mindset, this is how it is.”
