The 40-year-old became the first player in NBA history at his age to record multiple triple-doubles. Additionally, James’ stat line put him in elite company, as he became the first player since Oscar Robertson in 1965 to record a 33-point triple-double at Madison Square Garden.
Austin Reaves provided crucial support with 27 points, six assists, five rebounds, and three steals. Rui Hachimura added 21 points, while Max Christie and Dorian Finney-Smith each contributed 15 points.
While James and the Lakers’ offense stole the show, their defense played a crucial role in the victory. The Lakers’ defensive scheme held Karl-Anthony Towns and Jalen Brunson to a combined 28 points on 10-of-30 shooting.
