NBA insider Evan Sidery recently reported that Dorian Finney-Smith is a strong candidate to be traded from the Brooklyn Nets this offseason. During the trade deadline, Brooklyn actively shopped Finney-Smith at the deadline and garnered significant interest from potential trade partners.
He also mentioned that the Milwaukee Bucks, Cleveland Cavaliers, Memphis Grizzlies, Sacramento Kings, Los Angeles Lakers, Phoenix Suns, and Oklahoma City Thunder are interested in acquiring him for their roster during this offseason.
“Dorian Finney-Smith is a strong candidate to be traded from the Nets this offseason. Brooklyn shopped Finney-Smith at the deadline, receiving robust interest from contenders. All of the following teams who reportedly checked in on Finney-Smith could circle back leading up to the draft: Bucks, Cavaliers, Grizzlies, Kings, Lakers, Suns, Thunder.” Sidery wrote this in his recent post on X (formerly known as Twitter).
Dorian Finney-Smith has Struggled in Nets
After the Kyrie Irving trade, Finney-Smith joined the Nets, and they have been trying to trade him ever since. On February 6, 2023, Finney-Smith was traded for Markieff Morris and Kyrie Irving, along with Spencer Dinwiddie, an unprotected first-round pick and two second-round picks. He had played seven seasons with the Dallas Mavericks.
The Mavericks tried to acquire him in the offseason but couldn’t complete the transaction. According to StatsMuse, Finney-Smith has averaged 8.9 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 1.6 assists in 56 games this season. Finney-Smith’s success with the Nets has not gone as expected. His performance is influenced by the players he plays with.
When he was with the Mavericks, he played alongside one of the best players in the NBA, Luka Doncic, and was guided by one of the best coaches. Finney-Smith has struggled in Brooklyn due to the Nets’ current structure, which restricts their ability to draw as much attention from opposition defenders as Doncic. A team with a seasoned scorer and more skilled facilitators would surely see success from him.
