The Philadelphia 76ers are coming off yet another disastrous and highly disappointing playoff exit, and the drastic changes have already commenced.
Earlier this week, the team fired head coach Doc Rivers following their Week 7 blowout loss to the Boston Celtics in the Eastern Conference Semifinals. It also sounds like All-Star guard James Harden is leaving The City of Brotherly Love, as the 2018 league MVP and pending free agent is reportedly expected to go back to the the Houston Rockets.
Bleacher Report’s Andy Bailey proposed a mammoth trade proposal that would see the 76ers begin a rebuild by trading both Harden and Joel Embiid in a four-team blockbuster. The catch? Philly would land the No. 1 pick from the San Antonio Spurs, which would give them the opportunity to draft generational prospect Victor Wembanyama.
Bailey’s proposal has San Antonio getting Embiid, Washington Wizards’ All-Star guard Bradley Beal and Houston’s 2025 second-round pick. Philly would get the top selection, Jalen Green, Jeldon Johnson, a 2025 first-rounder from Houston plus a 2026 second-rounder from Washington.
The Rockets would get Harden, Johnny Davis and Khem Birch. Finally, the Wizards would receive Devonte’ Graham, Tobias Harris, Daishen Nix, Zach Collins and the Spurs’ 2025 first-round pick.
This is merely a fun proposal idea from Bailey, but it definitely makes sense for all four teams on multiple fronts. Of course, it’s impossible to envision the Spurs actually giving up the top selection, and it’s also unlikely the 76ers would trade their franchise star in Embiid.

One thing is clear: With Harden likely on his way out of Philly, something has to change if this team is to remain a contender in the wide-open Eastern Conference.
