The NBA has rescinded Atlanta Hawks star Dejounte Murray’s technical foul after review. Murray was issued a technical foul for lounging on the sidelines during a stoppage in Atlanta’s 114-102 defeat to the Brooklyn Nets(4:16 of the 4th quarter).
At 4:16 in the fourth quarter, Dennis Schroeder made an uncontested 3-pointer to give the Nets a 14-point lead, forcing the Hawks to take a timeout.
Referee Brothers spoke with Dejounte Murray as they were walking to the coaches’ huddle, but the Hawks guard looked to be ignoring the official on camera. Brothers decided to call a technical foul on Murray as a result. It was objectively an outrageous decision.
It prompted the 2022 All-Star to respond to this foul on Twitter:
“Getting A Tech Because There Was Nothing To Talk About Is UNBELIEVABLE!!!!”
The NBA office has also recognized that and rescinded the referee’s decision. This has made fans question the quality of refereeing taking place in the league. Many were already outraged by the technical given by Brothers. This decision will put further question marks on the current referees.
Dejounte Murray has become the defacto no.1 option for the Hawks
Dejounte Murray was the focus of several trade rumors, but he decided to stay with the Atlanta Hawks, where he will play out the remaining $18.2 million of his contract. He has been stepping up to provide the Hawks with excellent basketball since the trade deadline passed on February 8.
