The NBA is on tap to be a better product starting next season now that players won’t be able to draw fouls as they once did.
A new NBA rule change will cut down on James Harden and Trae Young’s free-throw attempts. The NBA’s competition committee discussed a rule that would prevent players from using unnatural motions on jump shots to draw fouls, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. Those rules will now be implemented and result in either an offensive foul or no-call.
Refs will now be trained to make sure it happens starting next season.
Harden, Trae Young, and Luka have reputations for drawing questionable fouls. Harden ranked 23rd in free-throw attempts during the 2020-21 NBA season, though played in only 44 games. Prior to this season, Harden led the league in free-throw attempts for six straight seasons.
Young ranked third in free-throw attempts during the 2020-21 season with 546.
