The Golden State Warriors were coming off their 5th-straight NBA Finals appearance when Kevin Durant got hurt again and then Klay Thompson got hurt. Durant has since departed to the Brooklyn Nets while Klay hadn’t played a game in the 2019-2020 season.
Stephen Curry also missed a tremendous amount of time with an injury and it has the current squad with one of the worst records in the NBA.
Curry and Thompson are both set to return from injury and combined with Draymond, the team should return to form as one of the best in the Western Conference. However, as the landscape of the NBA has rapidly changed with the Lakers and Clippers both becoming contenders, the Warriors might need to do something to keep pace with the other teams.
That led to NBA insider Ric Bucher to suggest a blockbuster deal that would send Green to Utah for Rudy Gobert in return.
“A Gobert-for-Green deal meets salary-cap trade requirements, and the Jazz would get a former Defensive Player of the Year for the reigning one,” Bucher wrote on Bleacher Report. “The Warriors, meanwhile, would get a younger (and physically more imposing) one. Several executives consider moving Green as something the Warriors should at least consider, whether it is for a proven talent or a potential one.”
If Gobert’s relationship with Jazz star Donovan Mitchell doesn’t improve, Utah will have to move forward with sending the big man elsewhere and getting someone good back in return.
The 27-year-old Gobert was averaging 15.1 points, 13.7 rebounds and 2.0 blocks per game before the season was suspended shortly after he tested positive for the coronavirus.
