The Sixers finished yet another season well shy of the NBA championship. After their first round exit to the Knicks, the Philly front office is aiming for some staunch additions. But for that, outgoings are also required, and Tobias Harris is one of the players who’d be leaving via free agency.
According to Shams Charania, the Utah Jazz and the Detroit Pistons are the two teams interested in the forward. “I’m told the Utah Jazz and Detroit Pistons are expected to be the strongest suitors for (Tobias) Harris going into free agency,” The Athletic reporter said on Monday, during an episode of the Stadium.
Harris signed a $180 million 5-year contract in 2019. But the 31-year-old mostly fell short of it throughout his Sixers tenure. This season, Harris averaged 17.2 points from 48.7/35.3/87.8 shooting split alongside 6.5 rebounds and 3.1 assists.
The Sixers are looking to bring another star name to play alongside Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey. The former is also set for a max contract, hence it is necessary for the franchise to open up cap space.
Tobias Harris Could Be Key Part in Sixers Plans
With Tobias Harris heading towards free agency, there might be one last use of the forward. According to Keith Pompey, the Clippers are interested in Harris and with the Sixers looking to land Paul George. “L.A. has some level of interest in Harris, a soon-to-be free agent and former Clipper, according to a league source. And if George opts to become a free agent, don’t rule out Philly going after him,” wrote the Philadelphia Inquisitor reporter.

The Sixers are also interested in Heat star Jimmy Butler and the Pelicans forward, Brendon Ingram. But with them, the Sixers will have a summer to deal with. For Harris, the case is different, and the franchise will need to sort it out before the free agency window opens.
