According to recent reports by NBA Insider Shams Charania of The Athletic, the Cleveland Cavaliers are expected to offer Donovan Mitchell a 4-year, $209 million max contract.
“Cavaliers are working to secure two fronts: Cleveland is confident about reaching a contract extension soon with Donovan Mitchell and is in the final stages of deciding on its new coach, according to sources.” Charania wrote.
The Cavaliers will be relieved if Mitchell signs the deal. However, they may have to consider trading their other All-Star guard. Darius Garland has supported Mitchell for the past two years. It has been suggested that Garland’s agent should approach Cleveland about a trade. Additionally, the Cavaliers selected Golden State Warriors assistant Kenny Atkinson on Monday to replace J.B. Bickerstaff as the team’s next head coach.
However, if Mitchell does not sign a deal with the Cavaliers, several teams are interested in adding the 27-year-old guard to their roster.

The Denver Nuggets selected Donovan Mitchell with the 13th overall pick in the 2017 NBA Draft. However, he was later traded to the Utah Jazz in exchange for Trey Lyles and Tyler Lydon, who was the 24th pick.
The 27-year-old star played 5 seasons with the Jazz before being traded to the Cavaliers for Lauri Markkanen, Collin Sexton, Ochai Agbaji, three first-round picks, and two pick swaps. In Cavaliers’ 145-134 overtime victory on January 2, 2023, Mitchell scored 71 points against the Bulls, making him the 12th player in NBA history to score more than 70 points in a game.
