Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reported that the Cleveland Cavaliers have been granted permission to interview Micah Nori for their vacant coaching position.
The native of Ohio boasts 15 seasons of experience as an NBA assistant coach. He has never held a head coaching position in the NBA. Nori is among the five candidates for the job, alongside Kenny Atkinson, James Borrego, Chris Quinn, and Johnnie Bryant.
Apart from the Cavaliers, the 50-year-old has also been in discussions with the Lakers for their coaching vacancy. However, recent reports suggest that former NBA star JJ Reddick is nearing a deal to become the Lakers’ head coach.
Nori recently completed his fourth season with the Minnesota Timberwolves. Before joining the Timberwolves, he served as an assistant coach for the Detroit Pistons for three seasons, the Denver Nuggets for three seasons, the Sacramento Kings for two seasons, and the Toronto Raptors for four seasons.
President Tim Connelly Backs Micah Nori for Future Head Coaching Role
Micah Nori has been an integral part of the Minnesota Timberwolves coaching staff and played a significant role in the team’s success this season. Under Nori’s guidance, the Timberwolves advanced to the Western Conference Finals.
Back in May, Tim Connelly, the president of basketball operations for the Wolves, expressed his confidence in Nori’s coaching abilities. Connelly lauded Nori, stating that he would excel as a head coach once the right opportunity arose.

“Micah is gonna make a great head coach when some smart team hires him. The whole staff is really connected and I think Finch empowers those guys, so it’s a collective,” Connelly said.
Nori joined the Timberwolves organization in 2021 and has since made a significant impact on the team’s performance.
Connelly’s hopes for Nori’s coaching future appear to be on the horizon. But, it’s now contingent upon the team’s decision to appoint a successor for J.B. Bickerstaff either before or after the 2024 NBA Draft.
