When LeBron James signed with the Los Angeles Lakers during the 2018 offseason, it was expected that he would finish his career wearing the purple and gold. But following a tumultuous first season in La La Land, rumors have begun to swirl.
Among them is this one from NBA insider Ric Bucher, who believes the Milwaukee Bucks might make a move for LeBron in an effort to entice Giannis Antetokoumpo to stay with the team for the long haul:
“Right now the Milwaukee Bucks are desperate to keep Giannis Antetokounmpo. This is speculative and hypothetical. If they said Giannis…we’re going to bring LeBron in because we want you to play for a championship right now. That’s how much you mean to us that we’ll go and get LeBron and bring him in here. We don’t want you going to him. We’ll bring him in here. We’ll trade whatever we need in order to get him here”
Now, there are two things that we should all definitely take note of from Bucher’s spiel. The first is that, prior to outlining this hypothetical situation, Bucher clearly states that he thinks it is unlikely the Lakers trade LeBron because, judging by what he’s heard around the league, no team would be willing to give the Lakers the type of package they’d want in return for a high-profile player like LeBron.
However(!!!), and this is the important part, Bucher does suggest that this LeBron-to-the-Bucks scenario was brought to him by a fellow NBA general manager. So there is at least a bit of substance to this rumor.
Will it actually happen? Only time will tell.
