In the 2023-24 NBA season, Denver Nuggets star Nikola Jokic, who was recently praised by Kendrick Perkins, won his third KIA NBA MVP award. Oklahoma City Thunder point guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander placed second, while Dallas Mavericks star Luka Doncic came in third place in the MVP ranking. The decision was well-received by many fans, players, and analysts, but there were some who were unsatisfied.
As the new NBA preseason starts, speculations about the new NBA MVP have started. According to the 2024-25 NBA.com GM Survey, Shai is the favorite to win the NBA MVP award in the upcoming season.
In a recent survey, 40 percent of NBA general managers selected Shai’s name, while 30 percent picked Doncic. The third position was tied between Jokic, the Philadelphia 76ers star Joel Embiid, and 2024 NBA champion Jayson Tatum, each receiving 7 percent of the votes.
The other players who also received votes are Giannis Antetokounmpo of the Milwaukee Bucks, Jaylen Brown of the Celtics, and Anthony Edwards of the Timberwolves. Last season, Jokic won the award with 43 percent of the votes.
Nikola Jokic Is Confident For This Season’s Championship
Nikola Jokic won the MVP award but failed to clinch the championship last season. After defeating the Los Angeles Lakers in round 1, the Nuggets lost to the Minnesota Timberwolves in the next round. With the new season underway, Jokic is confident about the team’s championship chances. In a recent interview with EuroHoops, the three-time NBA MVP explained why he believes that the Nuggets will dominate in the 2024-25 NBA season.
“The last time I played for the national team, we won a championship. Maybe that means something, maybe it doesn’t. Most players say a summer tournament helps you stay in shape. I’m not sure if that’s true, but I had a great time and feel I improved. Whether it affects my current basketball or not, who knows,” Jokic said to EuroHoops.
