The wait is over. At long last, the Boston Celtics have their hands on an NBA Championship, their 18th one. Celtics celebrates the heroes of today after many before they tried and failed to reclaim the lost glory. On Monday night, the Celtics clinched the series as the streets of Boston filled up.
In the bigger picture, now the Celtics are the best NBA team in the country as they surpassed the Lakers with their 18th title. After the Gold and Purple brigade secured their 17th title in 2020, the cold war of who gets to the magic number of 18 intensified in recent years.
While both of them came close to settling it between them last season, none of them could ultimately get over the line following their respective Conference Finals losses. But all that is no longer of significance cause Boston has what it needs.
“None of it feels real right now. It feels like we’re in some Disney movie or something,” Jaylen Brown said in a post-game interview in the Celtics locker room as noises around him kept growing.
On the other hand, Jayson Tatum was seen clutching his knees and covering his face. Visibly overwhelmed by the feat, Tatum let it all out until his son Deuce was there to embrace him, snapping him out of his shock.

The reactions of the two bear massive significance. Brown and Tatum have been the standout players for the team throughout the season. Tatum, often criticized for his consistency, made sure that was not the case, but the critics found new ways every time he stepped up his game.
Jaylen Brown also dived deep into his arsenal to shrug off the failure tag. The two combined for 52 points on the night out of the 106 the Cs scored. Tatum’s 11 assists and JB’s 8 rebounds and 6 assists created the building blocks for the team to bounce back from the blowout loss from the previous game.
The Celtics took the initiative from the get-go and took a 21-point lead in the first half. The Mavs could do little to resist the barrage of scoring from the Boston side. Only Luka Doncic put up more than 20 points on the board for the visitors, ending his night with 28 points.
For the Celtics, Joe Mazzulla became the youngest coach to lift the NBA championship since Bill Russell did it in 1969.
Jaylen Brown Named NBA Finals MVP in Boston Celtics win
After his heroics in the ECF, Jaylen Brown continued his personal conquest by picking up the NBA Finals MVP. The Celtics’ guard averaged 20.4 points throughout the series, along with 5.4 rebounds per game and 5 assists per game.
This was his crowning moment for Jaylen Brown, following his massive $303 million contract signed with the Celtics last season. For the Boston franchise, there will be two days of party in Miami before returning to the city again and joining the celebration parade, the first since 2008. In Los Angeles, though, there will be doom and gloom for the foreseeable future until the Lakers get their hands on another title.
