Charles Barkley’s broadcast performance for the 2023 NBA All-Star Game has fans wondering if the Basketball Hall of Famer drank before going on the air.
His colleague, fellow Basketball Hall of Famer Shaquille O’Neal, even asked “Sir Charles” if he was drunk during the live broadcast. Shaq’s question, which you can see at the 0:14 mark of the clip below, led to an outburst of laughter from the fans.
The four-time NBA Champion and former Los Angeles Lakers and Miami Heat superstar isn’t the only one who wonders if Barkley was drunk during the broadcast. Plenty of fans thought the same.

The 2023 NBA All-Star game saw Giannis Antetokounmpo of the Milwaukee Bucks and LeBron James of the Lakers serve as captains. The players took turns choosing players to play for their clubs (Team Giannis and Team LeBron).
This year’s NBA All-Star Game was held at Vivint Arena (home of the Utah Jazz) in Salt Lake City, Utah. Mac McClung of the Philadelphia 76ers was the winner of the annual Slam Dunk Contest on Saturday.
The NBA All-Star break runs through Wednesday. Teams will return to action on Thursday, with nine games on the schedule for that day. The regular season will conclude on Apr. 9, with the play-in tournament set to run from Apr. 11 to Apr. 14.
