The NBA playoffs are now well underway and we should be in for a pretty exciting period. However, it’s already been marred with some significant injuries to some key players.
Giannis Antetokounmpo, Ja Morant and Tyler Herro have all sustained serious injuries in their first postseason games.
Herro’s injury, a broken hand, was more or less self-inflicted. And the Miami Heat star, last season’s Sixth Man of the Year, should be out for four-to-six weeks as a result.
Sunday’s injuries to Antetokounmpo and Morant were both caused by defending players stepping up to draw offensive fouls. The Greek Freak was ruled out of the rest of Game 1 against the Heat with a lower-back injury, having landed awkwardly after crashing into Kevin Love.
Morant hurt his wrist after a similar action from Anthony Davis in the Memphis Grizzlies’ loss to the Los Angeles Lakers and was also unable to finish the game. The Bucks trail 1-0 after losing their star player too.

Giannis and Ja are very aggressive attacking the rim but the plays that saw them injured both seemed to stem from defenders being more interested in taking the charge than playing defense. Of course, the opposing players can’t be blamed for stepping up in such a manner as they operated within the rules. But fans are calling for the NBA to change them after the annoying injuries.

Both players’ scans came back negative so they’re likely to be back at some point during their respective series. As for the rule change, we’re just going to have to wait and see.
