The NBA community has been actively engaged in national and international issues. Many NBA players, analysts, and coaches have shared their thoughts on global events. Following controversial comments by former United States President Donald Trump, the Miami Heat recently expressed their support for the Haitian community.
The Miami Heat posted a statement on Monday expressing their unwavering support for the Haitian community. They also refuted the previous president’s claims, stating they were untrue.
“The Miami Heat staff, like Miami itself, is a diverse and brilliant mix of vibrant cultures, including many members of our Haitian community. The false narrative surrounding them is hurtful and offensive and has sadly made innocent people targets of hateful speech and physical threats. Our Haitian employees, fans, and friends deserve better. Ansanm nou kanpe fo.”
The Heat clarified that derogatory remarks made about the Haitian community are harmful and intended to harm innocent individuals.
Donald Trump Accused Haitian Immigrants of Eating Pets
Last week, there was a presidential debate between Trump and Kamala Harris in preparation for the upcoming election. During the debate, former United States President Trump made hurtful statements about the Haitian community in the United States, claiming that immigrants were responsible for the missing and mutilated pet animals in Springfield, Ohio. Trump also stated that cats, dogs, and geese are being eaten by Haitian immigrants in the area.
The Miami Heat emphasized that the Haitian community should be respected rather than targeted for political gain. The statement concluded with “Ansanm nou kanpe fo,” which means “We stand together.”
