On July 8, 2024, DeMar DeRozan moved to the Sacramento Kings through a sign-and-trade arrangement involving the San Antonio Spurs. Unfortunately, his presence has not significantly shifted the dynamics, as the Kings find themselves in a challenging spot during the 2024-25 NBA season.
DeRozan played for the Toronto Raptors for nine seasons after being drafted in the 2009 NBA season. He then spent three seasons with the San Antonio Spurs and another three with the Chicago Bulls before joining the Kings. Interestingly, an NBA executive recently suggested that DeRozan’s style of play may not align with winning basketball for the Kings.
“DeRozan is a highly skilled player who is great to have in the locker room and a guy who you want to give the ball to at the end of a game. But his play hasn’t driven winning, and it’s something that unfortunately has been the case throughout his career and it’s part of why he’s changed teams a bunch.” NBA Executive said (via ESPN).

After a close loss of 115-110 to the Memphis Grizzlies, the Kings are in 12th place in the Western Conference. DeRozan, who recently hinted at Kendrick Lamar’s upcoming album, contributed 26 points, one assist, and three rebounds against the Grizzlies.
DeMar DeRozan Shares Strong Confidence In Kings’ Competitive Edge
DeRozan is currently averaging 22.7 points, alongside 4.2 assists and 4.2 rebounds per game in the 2024-25 NBA regular season. Meanwhile, Kings fans understandably feel the pressure due to the team’s string of losses early this season. However, DeRozan maintains a cautiously optimistic outlook regarding the Kings’ roster. In a recent interview, the forward mentioned the Kings possess sufficient talent to stay competitive within the Western Conference.
“It’s always frustrating when you lose, but I think it’s all about how you build character from this and come out of it,” DeRozan said.
