The NBA has announced a major change regarding the 2024 All-Star Game format on night two of the 2023-24 regular season.
In a statement, the league announced that they’ll be going back to the East-vs-West format for the 2024 NBA All-Star Game. The contest will be held at the Indiana Pacers’ home venue, the Gainbridge Fieldhouse, on Feb. 18.
The league noted in the statement that captains will again be determined by the fan vote.
This will be the 73rd edition of the NBA’s classic best-on-best contest. From 2018 to 2023, the NBA All-Star Game format was changed in which two captains would be voted by the fans. Those two captains would then select players in a draft-style format.
Last season, LeBron James of the Los Angeles Lakers and Giannis Antetokounmpo of the Milwaukee Bucks were voted as the two captains. Team Giannis went on to defeat Team LeBron by a final score of 184-175 in the contest that was held at the Utah Jazz’s home venue of Vivint Arena on Feb. 19.
The defending NBA Champion Denver Nuggets hosted LeBron’s Lakers on opening night, with Denver winning 119-107. In the second opening night game, the Kevin Durant-led Phoenix Suns defeated Stephen Curry’s Golden State Warriors 108-104.
