The Chicago Bulls are focusing on building a younger roster, and critical decisions about the futures of forwards Zach LaVine and DeMar DeRozan are on the horizon. Recently, ESPN’s Bobby Marks shed light on the Bulls’ challenges with LaVine’s situation.
According to Marks, the Bulls have been actively trying to trade LaVine but have struggled to find any teams willing to take on his contract.
“Chicago has been trying to move Zach LaVine forever. They can’t find any takers just to get off his contract. I don’t even think if they attached a first-round pick, teams would take Zach LaVine,” Marks said.
LaVine is currently under a five-year, $215 million contract set to expire after the 2026–27 season. Chris Haynes of Bleacher Report also revealed that there appears to be little interest in the market for the Bulls star.
“I’m told there’s no talk at this moment on the extension. The Bulls are trying to find a spot for Zach LaVine,” Haynes said.
Bulls Face Tough Choices Regarding Zach LaVine And DeMar DeRozan
Due to their luxury-tax threshold, the Chicago Bulls can’t keep Zach LaVine and DeMar DeRozan on the roster. Bobby Marks later highlighted how this financial constraint directly impacts DeRozan’s future with the Bulls.

“So that impacts DeRozan because you can’t sign DeRozan and keep LaVine, and now you’re going into the luxury tax year,” he added.
To address this issue, unloading LaVine’s $43 million cap hit would significantly alleviate the financial burden. DeRozan, who remains a highly effective player, could provide the Bulls with a solid performance. Last season, DeRozan averaged 24.0 points and 5.3 assists per game.
Nevertheless, recent reports suggest that DeRozan may explore offers from other teams before engaging in negotiations with the Bulls.
