Anthony Edwards gave everything he had to lead the Minnesota Timberwolves to an NBA championship last season, but his efforts fell short. Despite Edwards’ bold claim towards Kyrie Irving, the Timberwolves were defeated by the Dallas Mavericks in the Western Conference Finals.
The loss ended their title hopes with a 4-1 series loss. Edwards also missed out on the MVP award, finishing seventh in the voting.
However, former NBA player and analyst Kendrick Perkins believes Edwards has a strong chance to claim the MVP title this season. During his appearance on NBA Today, Perkins was asked about potential first-time MVPs for the upcoming season. He didn’t hesitate to name Edwards while comparing him with Michael Jordan.
“The young man that we’ve been comparing to Michael Jordan, the young man that actually took his team to the Western Conference Finals, the young man that knocked off the defending champs out of the postseason. His name’s Anthony Edwards,” Perkins said.
“Watching what I saw last year, especially in the Olympics, Anthony Edwards is out to go get his. He wants to win, but this year, I wouldn’t be surprised if he leads the league in scoring, to be honest with you. He’s not waiting on anyone,” he added.
Edwards finished last season with averages of 25.9 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 5.1 assists. His stellar performance earned him a place on the Olympic roster, where he secured his first Olympic gold medal at the Paris Games.

Anthony Edwards Vows to Lead the Timberwolves to a Breakout Season
Anthony Edwards is gearing up to prove his critics wrong and lead the Minnesota Timberwolves to another standout season. During a recent press conference, Edwards spoke about his excitement and commitment to the team while sharing his gratitude for the strong support from the state of Minnesota.
“I feel like the state of Minnesota has given us so much love and support. We just can’t wait to get back out there and put on for them. We had a good season last year, but Minnesota deserves more. Last year was like an appetizer. This year we want the whole meal,” Edwards said.
The Timberwolves, with Edwards at the helm, are set to kick off the new season with a game against the Los Angeles Lakers on October 5.
