During the latest episode of the show Get Up on ESPN, Brian Windhorst, an ESPN NBA insider and analyst, made some bold comparisons when discussing the outcome of Game 7 between the Denver Nuggets and the Minnesota Timberwolves. He compared Minnesota’s star player, Anthony Edwards, with the legendary player Michael Jordan.
Windhorst compared Ant-Man to the 1998 Jordan. He also expressed excitement about Edwards’ future, predicting great success in two to three years.
“Whenever you compare him [Anthony Edwards] to Jordan, you have to frame it with the age. Jordan didn’t win a playoff series until he was age 25. We’re not talking about 1991 Michael Jordan. Ant Edwards is like 1988 Michael Jordan when Larry Bird, Magic Johnson, and the Pistons were still dominating the league. That’s why we’re excited about him. We’re not just excited about him now; we’re excited about where he can be in two or three years. He is on that process and on that timeline. And he’s doing it very quickly at age 22. It is all of those things.” Windhorst said.
In addition to Windhorst’s remark, former Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski shared his opinion on the comparison. He called the comparison premature, noting that Michael Jordan had completed his entire career while Anthony Edwards was only 23. Krzyzewski emphasized that the comparison should be approached with caution and not rushed.
Edwards Wants to Put an End to the Comparisons
During a press conference last week, Edwards stated that he wants to end the comparisons between himself and Jordan. He emphasized that Jordan is the greatest player of all time and cannot be compared to him.
The Timberwolves beat the Nuggets in game seven of the playoff series and advanced to the Western Conference finals. Anthony Edwards has averaged 30.2 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 5.8 assists over ten games in the 2023-34 playoffs. Despite his excellent stats, Edwards made some bold statements during a recent press conference regarding the upcoming showdown against Kyrie Irving and the Dallas Mavericks.
