Sterling Brown sustained multiple facial lacerations when he was assaulted with a bottle outside of a Miami club late Sunday.
The Houston Rockets player was already listed as out with a injury for Monday’s game against the Miami Heat.
“He had no prior knowledge of or interaction with the assailants,” the Rockets said in a statement. “He suffered facial lacerations but will make a full recovery.”
“I have spoken to him, and he’s feeling better,” Rockets coach Stephen Silas told reporters before the game. “Thankfully, he’s going to be OK.”
Brown signed with the Rockets last year in free agency and currently averages 8.2 points and 4.4 rebounds through 51 games with Houston.
As a member of the Milwaukee Bucks last season, Sterling Brown reached a $750,000 settlement agreement in his civil rights lawsuit against the city of Milwaukee. In 2018, he alleged that Milwaukee cops targeted him outside a Walgreens store because he is Black. They used a stun gun when he didn’t immediately remove his hands from his pockets.
