Free-agent center Mitchell Robinson just made history this week. He agreed to a four-year, $60 million contract to stay with the New York Knicks.
For the first time since 1994, the New York Knicks have signed a draft pick to a second contract. Prior to this week, Charlie Ward was the last player drafted by the Knicks to sign a multi-year deal once his rookie contract expired.
After injuries derailed his 2020-21 campaign, Robinson played in a career-high 72 games last season. He averaged 8.5 points, 8.6 rebounds, and 1.8 blocks in 25.7 minutes.
The 24-year-old is known primarily for his rim protection.
He made $1.8 million last season, the final year of a four-year deal he signed with the Knicks after the draft.
Hopefully, his resigning is a good sign for things to come as the franchise tries once again to have a successful season.
