The Denver Nuggets had all the glory to themselves when they drubbed the Miami Heat in 2023. Unfortunately, the spark seems to be missing since then. After settling with a mediocre season last time, the Nuggets have started things off in the most horrific manner. Facing off against the Oklahoma City Thunder, the Nuggets fell to a humiliating 87-102 loss. Sadly, little did they know that it was just the start of their woes this season.
Looking to make a turnaround, the Nuggets next went up against the Clippers. And once again, it was a sorry state of affairs. Although they gave a better fight this time, losing 104-109, a 0-2 falter right at the start is not good news for the team. Quite expectedly, their head coach, Micahel Malone, did not seem pleased with how things went down in the middle.
“This is not the start we wanted, but it’s our reality,” Malone said. “So embrace it, let’s try to go on the road and find our rhythm, and try go get this s**tty taste out of our mouths.” However, Malone then went on to sound positive saying that the team is capable of cleaning up the mess. He also hinted at the Nuggets’ interest in fielding Dario Saric and Russell Westbrook.
Well, there are reasons for this loss to sting. In the previous game, Chet Holmgren played like ‘Kevin Garnett,’ but the Clippers were without their best player, Kawhi Leonard. Despite the best of the Nuggets’ tries, the Clippers found a way to claw back in.
Denver Nuggets Put Up A Sorry State Of Affairs
The Denver Nuggets struggled to keep up against a Kawhi Leonard-less Clippers. While Leonard is out indefinitely due to his injury, his teammates were quick to step up to fill in the gap. James Harden and Norman Powell combined together to ensure that the threat of Nikola Jokic was eliminated properly. While Harden dropped 23 points with 6 rebounds and 16 assists, it was Powell who shone the brightest.
Putting up a scintillating display, Norman Powell accumulated 37 points to take his side home. Although Jokic looked at his menacing best, dropping 41 points, it was not enough for the Nuggets. Thus, with the threat of their campaign getting derailed right at the start looming large, it remains to be seen how things turn around for the Denver Nuggets.
