While many fans know of the connection between Michael Beasley and Kevin Durant in the NBA, there’s a lesser-known story from their past. It dates back to when Durant was just 11 years old and had a chance encounter with Beasley.
In 2013, Durant recounted an amusing memory of a pizza order he and his friends had placed after a practice session. They were eagerly anticipating the arrival of their meal. Unexpectedly, Beasley showed up. He rushed to take some slices from their pizza and jumped into his car. After he left, Durant and his friends discovered that the entire pizza was gone.
Recently, Beasley addressed this incident during an appearance on the Club 520 podcast. He confirmed that he only took half of the pizza, not the full one.
“The pizza story is true. But it’s not that true. I took half the box. But the people I took it from, they had to give their slice too. So, that’s why the whole pizza was gone,” Beasley said.
Michael Beasley Reflects on Kevin Durant’s Early College Dominance
Kevin Durant’s journey to the NBA began with a significant moment in the 2007 NBA Draft when the Seattle SuperSonics selected him as the second overall pick. Before making that leap to the professional level, Durant recently shared his frustration with his NBA 2K25 rating and proved his remarkable talent during a standout year at the University of Texas.
At Texas, Durant’s performance caught the attention of fellow player Michael Beasley. On the recent episode of the Club 520 podcast, Beasley recalled Durant’s early dominance on the court.

“I rebounded more than I scored. Most of my points came off offensive rebounds, putbacks, and face-up jump shots. I watched KD; I think he was really cool,” Beasley said.
During his one season with the Longhorns, Durant helped lead Texas to a 25-10 record, averaging 25.8 points and 11.1 rebounds per game. His outstanding performance earned him the prestigious AP and Big 12 Player of the Year honors.
