The Miami Heat’s season was over after they were defeated in the playoffs by the Boston Celtics in a 4-1 series. Throughout the season, the Miami franchise struggled with injuries that greatly cost them, and the postseason wasn’t any different. The Heat president, Pat Riley, made some remarks about it in a recent press conference, and it is safe to say he didn’t hold back.
While discussing Tyler Herro’s contribution to the franchise this season, Riley said, “He’s been fragile a little bit.” He further added, “What did he play, 40 games? He might have to go to another level nutritionally. He’s got to make some adjustments, definitely. Maybe someday he will surprise everyone and play every game.”
Herro suffered from an Achilles injury, followed by knee, rib, quad, hand, shoulder, and foot injuries all through the season. The 24-year-old guard averaged 16.8 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 5.4 assists in the playoffs, whereas he added 20.8 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 4.5 assists per game in the regular season, appearing in 42 games.
Following his scathing assessment of Herro, Riley had a lot to add about another Heat star whose comments did not amuse the 79-year-old.
Pat Riley Tells Jimmy Butler to Keep His Mouth Shut
Miami Heat’s All-Star forward recently came into the spotlight for stating that his presence in the playoffs would have made a difference to the team’s results. The hoop lovers witnessed the impact of “Playoff Jimmy” last year, but his comment did not sit well with Pat Riley.
Riley said, “For him to say that, I thought, is that Jimmy trolling or is that Jimmy serious.” He continued, “If you’re not on the court playing against Boston or on the court playing against the New York Knicks, you should keep your mouth shut.”
