The Miami Heat have been named in a rumor claiming they could pull off a trade for Minnesota Timberwolves center Karl-Anthony Towns after they considered a move for him back in 2021.
The Heat’s lack of size has been apparent in these NBA Finals against the Denver Nuggets as they have had no answer for the likes of Nikola Jokic and Aaron Gordon. Even rookie Christian Braun has become a problem for the undersized Eastern Conference champions.
It’s been quite an improbable run for Miami, who snuck into the playoffs as a Play-In eighth seed and are now in the finals. They’ve had some major contributions from their role players and undrafted stars but are light on star power and it’s believed that they could make a move to land a big-name player in the offseason.
Miami’s postseason campaign has been without Tyler Herro, who broke a hand during the first half of Game 1 against the Milwaukee Bucks in the first round. Given that they’ve gotten this far without the sharpshooter, they could be inclined to trade him in the Summer.
The team’s roster needs are glaring and, whether or not they win a title this season, they should be looking to improve.
It’s thought that they could look to bring in Towns, with a package including Herro, first-year forward Nikola Jovic, a 2023 first-round pick (No. 18 overall), and a 2029 first-round pick in return for the T-Wolves big man.

Should the Heat be considering such a deal, it would be interesting to see how it would play out as Jimmy Butler and Towns have a frosty relationship from Jimmy’s time in Minnesota.
