The Dallas Mavericks recently reinforced their trust in head coach Jason Kidd by offering him a multi-year contract extension. This decision was indirectly supported by the team’s rookie, Dereck Lively II, who spoke highly of Kidd in a recent press conference.
Kidd’s coaching philosophy leans heavily on learning through experience, even when it involves failure. This approach has clearly resonated with Lively, who appreciates the opportunities to grow and improve on the court.
“He’s been one of the best coaches I’ve ever had. He’s put me in positions where he’s expecting me to fail, and even if I fail, he’s gonna leave me in there to learn. Being able to have a coach like that who’s gonna make the players speak, and then say what he thinks, it’s an amazing process,” Lively said.
Under Kidd’s leadership, the Mavericks have outscored their opponents by an impressive 13.4 points per 100 possessions in 348 minutes.
Lively also addressed Kidd’s criticism, expressing his confusion and disagreement with the detractors.
“There’s been a lot of criticism on him, but I don’t understand why. I feel like he’s an amazing coach and an amazing person.”

Jason Kidd Is Ready to Turn Failure Into Fun in the NBA Finals
The Dallas Mavericks missed the playoffs last season. But this season, Jason Kidd did not let history repeat as he guided the team to earn a ticket to the NBA finale 2024.
The Mavericks head coach remained optimistic and focused on implementing a new plan to lead the team to success.
“We had a plan. You guys just didn’t know it. We got D-Live and O-Max. It’s alright to fail, I’ve said that before. Now we’re starting to build something and it’s kinda fun to be apart of,” Kidd said.
The Mavericks will face the Boston Celtics in the NBA finals that is scheduled to take place from June 6.
