Luka Doncic’s journey to securing his first NBA trophy with the Dallas Mavericks faced another setback after falling short to the Boston Celtics. On the international stage, the Slovenian star also didn’t get much success as his team failed to qualify for the Paris Olympics 2024.
Meanwhile, Doncic’s idol and Dallas Mavericks legend Dirk Nowitzki recently shared his thoughts on the idea of Doncic teaming up with another NBA superstar, Nikola Jokic. Nowitzki was in Slovenia to celebrate the basketball career of Goran Dragic, who bid adieu to his fantastic career at “The Night of the Dragon.” During the event, the discussion shifted to the exciting possibility of Doncic and Jokic teaming up in the NBA as Nowitzki expressed his enthusiasm for the idea.
“I hope that would be in Dallas. I’m not sure if that will ever happen, but obviously both are two of the best players in the world. If not the best players in the world,” Nowitzki said.
While Doncic didn’t achieve his goal in the Olympics, Jokic led his Serbian team to win the bronze. Nowitzki later shared the strong relationship between the two players, which he believes could be a foundation for success if they were to join forces.
“They both have a great relationship with each other; they respect each other and like each other genuinely. They spend time with each other. They’re both incredible players,” Nowitzki added.

During the NBA All-Star Weekend media festivities in February, Jokic was asked about possibly teaming up with Doncic in the future. Jokic acknowledged that the idea is not entirely out of the question. But he also made it clear that he is content with his current team, the Denver Nuggets.
“I don’t know. It’s possible. I don’t want to leave Denver. I like it there, and it’s a great organization. But if Luka gets pissed off in Dallas, he can come,” Jokic said.
For now, Jokic remains focused on his career with the Nuggets, and Doncic is dedicated to the Dallas Mavericks. However, the thought of these two stars joining forces continues to attract the NBA world.
