Things got crazy at Levi’s Stadium on Sunday, and we’re not talking about what happened on the football field between the San Francisco 49ers and the Dallas Cowboys.
Prior to the NFC Championship Game (which the Niners won by a score of 19-12), former NBA player Matt Barnes was spotted getting into it was a Cowboys fan. And at one point, he even spit in the man’s face.
It turns out that the spit may have actually been deserved, as he was later identified as the ex of Barnes’ fiancee.
According to reports, David Patterson Jr. had been harassing Barnes and once threatened to shoot the former NBA champ with his “glock.” In this instance, Barnes says David “hunted me down aggressively and confronted me” in the concourse of the stadium prior to the game.
Barnes later filed a restraining order against Patterson Jr., asking that he remains 100 yards from him at all time.

In the court documents, Barnes says Patterson Jr. “hunted me down and aggressively confronted me.” He said the 37-year-old yelled profanities and threats at him, called him names, and incited the crowd around them “into a frenzy by yelling out my full name repeatedly.”
Barnes added that Patterson Jr. eventually “shoved me, and I was forced to push him off of me.” He continued, “I did not want the altercation to physically escalate further, and out of frustration with him seeking me out and his unrelenting repeated harassment I spit in his direction in disgust.”
Police were called to the scene on Sunday to investigate the incident and have identified Barnes as the suspect in what is currently being considered a case of battery. An investigation is ongoing.
Barnes last played in the NBA in 2017, when he won his only NBA championship as a member of the Golden State Warriors. Prior to that, he spent time with the Kings, Grizzlies, Clippers, Lakers, Magic, Suns, 76ers and Knicks.
