In their 22 years in the NBA, the New Orleans Pelicans are yet to win an NBA championship. The drought will continue until next season after Zion Williamson and Co. were swept aside by the Western Conference toppers, OKC Thunder, in the first round of the playoffs. So what do they have to do to win a championship? Rapper and former hooper Master P has the solution.
In a recent interview with TMZ, Master P told the Pelicans the quickest way to a championship and that’s hiring him to the coaching staff. “I think we got a great team, I just think that maybe we got to wait a couple more years,” said Master P.
The super-confident rapper further added, “Y’all need to put me on the coaching staff next year and we gon’ win the whole thing.” Born in New Orleans, the 54-year-old is a long-time fan of the hometown team and previously expressed his wish to join the franchise. But will Willie Green be welcoming to the offer? Only he can answer that. P’s love for the game is no secret, as the founder of record label “No Limit Records” tried his hands in the NBA back in the day.
Looking Back at Master P’s Basketball Career
Percy Miller AKA Master P was always full of confidence and that made him try his luck on the basketball court. In 1998, Miller joined Fort Wayne Fury of the Continental Basketball Association under legendary coach Keith Smart, who said that Master P was not NBA material.
The next year, he found himself with the Charlotte Hornets but failed to impress, which led to his release in February. He was also a part of the Raptors training squad but was cut before the season began. After pinballing in the IBL and ABA for the next few years, Master P got a chance with the Nuggets in 2004 and with the Sacramento Kings the next year, but failed to stay with the franchise.

After his failed NBA venture, he coached the AAU basketball team where he coached DeMar DeRozan. It’s a long shot that he’ll get a chance to coach Zion Williamson, but his willingness only proves his passion for the game.
