The Los Angeles Lakers 2018-2019 season took an unexpected turn on Tuesday after Magic Johnson suddenly announced he was stepping down as Lakers President of Basketball operations.
It was completely out of the blue because he hadn’t even told Jeanie Buss of his plans yet.
In talking with reporters, Magic says he just wasn’t having any fun trying to be himself without him being thrown under the bus with claims of tampering.
“Somebody’s going to have to tell my boss because I knew I couldn’t be face-to-face and tell (Jeanie),” said Johnson. “I couldn’t stand to tell her.”
“I was happier when I wasn’t the president,” said Johnson.
“I think that with [Jeanie Buss] and I, I want to always preserve our relationship with her,” he said. “And I think I had more fun when I was able to the be big brother and ambassador.”
