Former Los Angeles Lakers president Magic Johnson, who was thought to have quit from the team, is still out there trying to make moves for the Lakers in free agency.
Magic reportedly told the L.A. Times’ Brad Turner that he spoke to Kawhi Leonard and his uncle, Dennis Robertson, Sunday after being contacted by Leonard’s group.
“A friend of mine called and says Kawhi (Leonard) wants to meet with you,” Johnson said. “I said no problem. I’m available if that’s what this man wants.”
That conversation does not violate the terms of free agency because Magic is no longer employed by the team any longer. Leonard is expected to meet with the Lakers after free agency officially commences Sunday evening.
Leonard is said to be either taking his talents back to the Toronto Raptors or to Southern California to play for the Lakers or Clippers.
