There were many predictions regarding the outcome of Game 5 of the exciting series between the Dallas Mavericks and Oklahoma City Thunder; one of them came from NBA analyst Charles Barkley. When the series was at a 2-2 tie, Barkley guaranteed that the Thunder would snatch the next win. However, when his prediction failed, he got mocked by none other than the Mavs superstar Luka Doncic.
To Sir Charles’ surprise, the Mavericks were the superior side on Wednesday. They consistently played throughout the game, ensuring that OKC didn’t outscore them in any quarter. Luka Doncic stole the show by leading the Mavericks on the offensive field with his game-high points and triple-double, which unlocked a special historic feat for him.
Luka Doncic Ties LeBron James in NBA History Books
Despite struggling with injuries in the semifinal series, Luka Doncic showcased a mind-blowing performance by putting up massive numbers for the Mavs in the tiebreaker game. The five-time All-Star added 31 points, 10 rebounds, and 11 assists while shooting 12-of-22 from the floor and 5-of-11 from the deep.
With his triple-double contribution for the second time in the series and the third time in this post-season tournament, Doncic surpassed Clippers guard Russell Westbrook to tie with LeBron James as the players to have achieved the same number of triple-doubles at the age of 25 or younger. The only player sitting atop the list is NBA great Oscar Robertson.
Besides scoring, Doncic gave a brilliant pass to Dereck Lively II from beyond the mid-court that stunned the NBA community on social media. The Mavs squad also displayed great support at both ends. If they show the same passion on Saturday and win Game 6, then they might secure their positions for the Western Conference Finals.
