Luka Doncic, who finished third in the MVP voting, has surpassed the current season’s KIA MVP winner, Nikola Jokic, and the second-placed Shai Gilgeous-Alexander in the MVP voting list. After winning Game 6 against the Oklahoma City Thunder, Doncic and the Dallas Mavericks have advanced to the Western Conference Finals. They will now face the Minnesota Timberwolves, who eliminated the Denver Nuggets in a tense Game 7 showdown, in the series finals.
Many NBA fans are debating whether Jokic deserves his third MVP award over Doncic, who has not yet earned one. Dwight Howard also joined the discussion, suggesting that Doncic should have won the title.
Former NBA player expressed support for Doncic over Jokic
According to a recent post of Howard on his social media account on X (Formerly known as Twitter), Howard wrote that the one who didn’t get the MVP title advanced to the conference finals.
“It’s crazy the person who should have probably got MVP is going to the Western Conference Finals.” Howard wrote.
When comparing the stats, Doncic averaged 33.9 points, 9.8 assists, and 9.2 rebounds in 70 games this season, while Jokic averaged 26.4 points, 12.4 rebounds, and 9.0 assists in 79 games this season. On the other hand, Gilgeous-Alexander scored 30.1 points per game this season.

In addition to Howard’s remark, Kyrie Irving praised Doncic for his contributions to the team’s success and for his care and support on and off the court.
Doncic and the Mavericks will now face the Minnesota Timberwolves in Game 1 of the Western Conference Finals, scheduled for Thursday at the Target Center. It will be interesting to see the intense showdown between Minnesota star Anthony Edwards versus Doncic and Irving.
